throw in things like Dropbox which are cross platform, or *gasp* paid solutions like carbonite or mozy, and those without backup are either uncaring or completely clueless.

hell even my 60 year old mother wanted to know how to make sure her "pictures" sere backed up in case something happened.

you must not watc ha lot of the Food Network.

it used to be people showing and teaching how to cook.

now it's reality cooking (ace of cakes/dinner impossible/restaurant impossible/throwdown/etc) mixed with "showcase random restaurants" programming (Diners Drive-ins and dives/the best thing i ever/etc) with a few shows still teaching real cooking(Good Eats), and not how to pour stuff out of a box/can/jar into a pan and call it cooking.

That's also why there is now a new channel called "The Cooking Channel".

There are a lot of free Apps that have extensive revenue streams for both the developer and Apple.
option 1: Develop free version that has limited functionality and offer in App upgrade to paid version with full functionality. Both Apple and developer get a cut of all upgrades.
Option 2: Develop free version that is Ad supported utilizing Apples iAd service. Every use of app makes money for both developer and Apple.
Option 3: Offer free version of App that has ability to purchase "stuff" in App. This is allowed within the context of Apples agreement and again, both developer and Apple will make money off of this. The Kindle, Sony Reader, and other eReader apps are/will be an example fo this. The apps are free, purchase of the books in App will net Apple 30% of the purchase price.
