Besides that. If i have $200 to spend i want to spend $200, and not $200 and than over the course
of the next year be harassed with the choice to spend another $50 to get the full-power i know
my computer is capable of... Since i know it's in there, and if I don't know i'm sure Intel is going
to make sure i'll be nagged with commercials, offers and unwanted advice from computer-savvy people
who 'do know what they are talking about' (read computer salesmen) etc. to make sure I do know...

There is exactly ONE reason why Intel wants this. That is to make more $$$ and those $$$ are coming out of OUR pockets. And we will be the ones that end up with less $$$ than in the present situation... So don't pretend it's a benefit to us...

You'd rather pay $225 or $235 for a crippled one and $50 for an upgrade than $250 in the present situation. Because that is probably the way it's gonna play out. Not the 'companies have morals and business ethics'-way you sketched above...

If it's not in the repositories, and there's no .deb available you have to compile from source.
Can you tell me one package that isn't in the repo's, AND had no .deb AND is used by the average user?

Since that is what we are talking about: 'the avarage user doesn't understand how to compile his own software'.

I've been using ubuntu since 8.04, Debian before that, and before i used debian i used Slackware since 7.1.

My Slackware days where my compiling days. And since I started using Debian and certainly i never encountered
a program that I needed for home-use and had to compile myself...

So no Apples and Oranges please, either we are talking about average home users who can't compile software,
or we are talking about power-users, programmers and sysadmins who need obscure software and can compile software.

Over the last year, when people asked me 'what computer should i buy' my response was always: 'How much do you want to spend' , and then look for the computer for that amount of money which has the best specs. And in laptops that's usually specs regarding harddisk/ram/screen/video, since that are the things not easily upgradeable for a laptop. I stopped looking at cpu-specs long time ago, especially since most people asking me for computer advice are people who don't know shit about computers and as such are people who write an occasional letter, send an email, surf the net and maybe watch a dvd... CPU specs surpassed that need long time ago, and every cpu currently on the shelves is good enough for that...

Yeah... But half of the names in the C are offcouse the same as in the H because they
were defined there, so those don't count, since they had to be the same (see parent)

In the C files (and the H files) empty lines are regulary used as proof off copy, i mean the
more big red lines you put in your >proofed_kind and ELF_K_AR are defined in .h, so they have to be the same. And then the resulting if block-code is completely different.

I mean, look at those files, WITHOUT the thick big red lines screeming injustice and tell me they
look the same...

I did a little volunteer translation work on Ubuntu, and i liked it. I found Ubuntu's system, Launchpad, great for that sort of thing.
Not only translations, but also bug reports and discussion are well formatted in that system. Which makes it easy if you want
to contribute to a project. Look up a project you like, browse through the bugreports and contact the maintainer if you want to
contribute, is my best guess...
