The one process limit was a flaw in the Linux implementation.

For example FreeBSD still uses it and it does not have an issue with multiple programs with sound and has not for a hell of a long time.

Submission + - Thwarting the Black Basta ransomware gang

Beave writes: Security researchers and practitioners at Quadrant Information Security recently found themselves in a battle with the Russian ransomware gang known as “Black Basta” in an attempted “double extortion” scheme. Quadrant discovered the Russian gang attempting to exfiltrate data from a network. Data exfiltrated from a victims network is used as part one of the gangs “double extortion” scheme. Once a victim's data is fully exfiltrated, the gang then encrypts workstations and servers. This is part two of the “double extortion”. Once these tasks are completed, Black Basta demands ransom payments from the victim in order to decrypt their data and to prevent Black Basta from releasing exfiltrated data to the public.

Fortunately, in this case, Black Basta didn’t make it that far. Instead, the security researchers used the opportunity to better understand Black Basta’s "backend servers", tools, and methods.

It ends up Black Basta will sometimes use a victims network to log into their own servers, which leads to interesting opportunities to observe the gang's operations.

The first write up goes into technical details about the malware and tactics Black Basta used. The second second write up focuses on Black Basta’s “backend” servers and how they manage them.

TLDR? You can also listen to two of the security researchers discuss their findings on the latest episode of the "Breaking Badness" podcast.

Yup. And it is not like their is a shortage of better designs out there that do exactly this. My favorite being PP15 as it is rock solid, cheap, and simple. Deans Ultra, XT90, and XT120 are some other common good ones.

It's frustrating that the computer industry is stuck in hold-my-beer mode when it comes to power connectors this. They got away from it with ATX and then came back with P4, EPS-12V, and finally this one.

Except that the spec was bad from day 1. So bad it should never have seen the light of day. EPS-12V and P4 are similarly bad designs. Only in the computer industry do you see this hold-my-beer school of bad design when it comes to power connectors with adding more pins for more amps.

And it is not like there is a shortage of better connectors that do handle this level of DC amps out there to choose from. PP15, Deans Ultra, XT90, and XT120 are some of the first that come to mind off hand.

They are. In fact this has nothing to do with those lawsuits or the like.

The government literally set them on this path under Obama with Operation Choke Point, where the FDIC began pressuring these banks to cut ties to stuff like the porn industry and firearms industry.

The banks were not at all reluctant. They jumped on this with glee.

Actually the answer to that is no. If the person being dangerous does not make them a imminent threat to life. For that to be true, they have to be an active threat at that moment. If he is cornered in a parking garage not actively shooting at any one, he does not represent a imminent threat to life. Dangerous yes, but not a imminent threat.

Really? I remember recently the really half assed article below was brought to my attention. This is so far from being unbiased or even vaguely researched it is funny. The author did no research into SBS and constantly describes something that is very federally illegal as if it was legal to do.

That article is also far from the first time I've seen them do something like this.
