Comment Re:Where did all the Entitled A-holes come from? (Score 1) 106

Apparently you have never owned a piece of property. There are literally thousands of restrictions on property. Zoning, covenants, environmental, historical, deeded, water restrictions, wetlands, etc. Where we live in the NE it can take over a year to get a building permit approved for a single family home. No, you cannot do whatever you want with property you own and pay taxes on.

Do you have any idea how large an area 500 acres is? We have a 50 acre solar farm near work and you can see it from everywhere around. It was a nice section of trees and fields before the farm was built. It is bigger than most housing developments. The proposed farm would be 10x the size. What is to happen to these in 20-30 years when the panels are no longer cost effective? A 500 acre scrap metal farm.

The problem with the used market is the battery life.
Neighbour just had his Tesla battery replaced after 8 years at a price of $14,000 US.
(then had someone run into him and total the car, Ugh, insurance does not cover the new battery.)
Not something to look forward to if you are on the used electric car market.

Having visited the UK many times and having friends visit us in the US I can say you have no sense of scale. We live in upstate NY, our friends from the UK looked at the map and decided to take a quick “day trip” to Montréal. It looked close on the map, but it is a 7 hour ride each way. 2 days bu train with the connections available. The UK would fit in Texas with room to spare.

Some areas cannot function with the current crop of electric buses.
They tried it in VT and had problems with the hills.

Sounds like they had trouble here too...
South Africa’s first electric buses are literally facing an uphill battle in Cape Town, after it emerged that they are unsuited for the city’s mountainous terrain.

According to a report by the Sunday Times, Cape Town councillors heard this week that the 11 buses – which form part of a R128 million pilot project – could not handle many of the inclines in the city.

Other problems have been found with weather conditions. Not something CA has much trouble with in most of the state.
"driving on snow and ice, prior to turning off the regenerative braking the bus struggled with stopping and accelerating in icy conditions."

We still have a few tools and machines at work running it. The vendor for one still uses it for new builds. In Vermont, the state income tax code includes a special sales tax payment for items purchased out of state where no taxes were collected. This includes online sales as well as purchases made in neighboring states without sales taxes. Also includes magazine subscriptions etc. This of course is up to the individual to report and if you are not required to file income taxes you would not be filling out this extra paperwork.
