Comment Re:"durable coating for car parts"? (Score 1) 88

Road salt, sand, grocery carts, rust. Because this is, from the title, stronger than steel I would imagine it is stronger than paint. If you can use it to protect the steel better than paint then there should be less issues with rust. Rust leads to a deteriorating car that has to be replaced. Other comments refer to the environmental cost. I would guess that the environmental cost for coating cars with this would be a positive as it would reduce the number of cars that need to be produced. Probably the same is true about more durable cell phone screens.
I mean, I'm not expecting them to coat KITT out of this. I wouldn't object though.

I've never heard of that. Do you have any sources where they have any evidence of this conspiracy theory? People should know about it. Trump had a peaceful transfer of power. It seems extraordinarily unbelievable that he would want a civil war after giving up office. You must have some pretty compelling evidence to make such an extreme claim.

Are you suggesting a third of Armed forces are on the side of this civil war claim you are making or are you using "on his side" in some other way which is unclear? Is there a link to the survey that we can read to understand what you are claiming?

It seems Musk wants to put people in danger? How does it seem like that? That Elon Musk wants to endanger the people that are producing his product is an extraordinary claim. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

There is very little liability for getting your workers killed in Texas? Again, this an amazing story if it is true. But it's hard to believe something so outlandish as that. Do you have any evidence that there is little liability for getting workers killed in Texas?

I'm not saying that you are wrong. I'm just saying it would take a lot for me to be convinced that Must is intentionally trying to harm his employees or that there is little liability in a first world country for getting your workers killed. Are you absolutely certain of these wild claims? Because someone should be investigating that if you have evidence of that. That's like some comic book villain level stuff.

Comment wasted hours (Score 1) 125

So young people I don't think are going to see this as much. Because young people will go into work and burn themselves out. But if you put any real time in, you start seeing how little work people are getting done. And you start thinking you are a sucker for getting 50% done for the same or less pay so you start slowing down. So you end up with a large number of workers putting in 40 hours and only doing the work that they could do in 3 or 4 days.
I think in many workplaces, you aren't going to see any reduction in work done for a 20% reduction in work hours. That's not universal, but it's also at least partly true. I don't know what the answer is. Maybe more jobs should be semi contractual, or have work goals set by union guidelines? I don't like unions. I don't like intentionally not doing your best work. But also this is going to happen regardless of mandates. We will just waste less time doing the same work for the same pay.

Comment numbers (Score 2) 263

I'm not sure I understand where those numbers are coming from. Current solar panels are 25 to 30 years. So barring any damage, by the time he's talking about really ramping this up, wouldn't we also need to replace a ton of existing panels? I'm not sure an improved grid or storage system is the bottleneck. It's ok to be ambitious, but to plan on vast upgrades to solar panel manufacturing, recycling, and materials in over the next few decades seems unrealistic. Within that time span I imagine that it is at least as plausible that more realistic energy solutions become readily available making this just a way to dump money into an industry with no need to complete objectives.

I believe Texans have more toll roads because they pay less in taxes. Not an awful trade as someone is going to have to take care of the road. If you want to fight about who runs things worse, a big corp bureaucracy or a big government bureaucracy then you'll have to look for someone with more time to waste than me. I'm from the land of potholes and would gladly pay some more money a year to anyone who could extend the life of my car battery, suspension, or tires. Or vote for anyone who could do it better. I think most of the drivers in my state are bad drivers due to constant mini concussions from holes in the roads.

Undecided on facial recognition. I think I land on the "con" side. But the blurb here makes a poor case. The fault doesn't seem to be with facial recognition as much as prosecutorial misconduct and poor police work.
I wouldn't completely disbelieve his statement about eating either as I could see how someone could possibly be poorly processed but I'd take it with a grain of salt for sure. It also makes me question the article since it has nothing to do with facial recognition and seems to make some unconnected emotional appeal that makes me wonder why the author feels he has to use that gimmick.

I'd be really interested in your data you used to make that bizarre case. I'll gladly give you credit for proving me wrong if you have any evidence to support your otherwise hateful and bigoted statement.
