Comment Re: Why would this break encryption? (Score 1) 169

We are assuming that WhatsApp is actually encrypted. Pretty sure I read an article here recently that stayed WhatsApp mods have access to read the last 5 messages of a reported thread. That suggests they can already break the 'encryption' and already makes it somewhat pointless. It wouldn't surprise me if the pushback from them is trying to hide the fact that it isn't encrypted in any reasonably useful way

Submission + - Nvidia Engineer releases Vulkan GPU driver after 2 years of development (tomshardware.com)

frootcakeuk writes: Martin Thomas has just released his version of a Vulkan compatible (somewhat) GPU driver for Raspberry Pi 0,1,2 & 3. From Tom's Hardware: "Earlier this year, the Raspberry Pi Foundation hooked up with Igalia to start development on an open-sourced Vulkan graphics driver for the Raspberry Pi. However, Martin Thomas, an engineer at Nvidia, beat them to the punch.

Thomas announced yesterday via his personal Twitter that his RPi-VK-Driver is ready for primetime. The talented engineer had been working on the Vulkan driver in his spare time for more than two years.

Technically, Thomas' iteration isn't a Vulkan driver per se because it doesn't comply with the official standards established by The Khronos Group. Nonetheless, the resourceful developer produced a driver that adheres to the Vulkan parameters as much as possible, and as close as the hardware would permit it. There's just one limitation with the RPi-VK-Driver though. Unlike the official Vulkan driver that's still in the works, Thomas' version is only compatible with the Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU that's found inside the Raspberry Pi 1, 2, 3 and Zero devices."

Good! It's what all non apple fanbois have been saying for ever! Apple is finally embracing standardisation and this is all you have to say about it?? No one gives a fuck about having them having new dongles, especially the apple people as their shiny new POS will undoubtedly get upgraded before long for some reason or another and have the new "standard" connector anyway! This is apple finally moving in the right direction and the article just bitches about "Oh no! More dongles" - Don't like it? Don't buy Apple! FYI I hate all things apple bit this is a good move on their part. Finally! Still bring back the headphone jack though!

"The fact beats are popular shows people don't give a shit about audio quality." This. Although thinking about it, I know a LOT of people who ask me if beats are any good (I test products for a living) and I laugh everytime! I think it may be worse in that people who can afford it think they know that it "must be good as it costs a lot". In my experience any decent headphones worth having will ALWAYS have a wired option. Sennheiser, Bowers &Wilkins, Sony & even the Bose QC35 all have wired options as well as bluetooth across most models (although Bose seem to break almost as often as beats).
