apoc.famine writes: While the website remained down, the current owners did nothing to communicate about the outage. Once the website was restored, they didn't even bother to post a root cause analysis, which everyone with a tech background would expect. It was a sad commentary on what used to be a pretty decent tech website.

Submission + - Amazon adds battery life, PDF support to Kindle (corporate-ir.net)

An anonymous reader writes: Amazon today announced a free firmware update to its Kindle e-readers that extends battery life with wireless on by up to 85%. The update also adds native PDF support and manual screen rotation to the readers. The update is available for both the US and International versions of the Kindle 2 and will be automatically distributed through Amazon's Whispernet.

The Microsoft announcement says "Use of the software is governed by the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistance 6.5 Beta License Agreement accessible as a file in this download." So you can't read the terms of service without downloading (and installling?) the software.

If you scroll down further, you'll see "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5 beta License Terms.rtf" which can be downloaded and viewed separately without having to install the program.
