IMHO we should be thinking more about conservation than new highly inefficient uses for fuel.

I like to think of it as similar to the decadent 1920's, the last hoorah before a great depression and a world war. Party on.

There's about 50 years left of oil, nat. gas and coal, less than a human lifetime. It's Game Over after that.

I'm more in awe of the women who trained for months to use the voder, another dead-end technology with a brief life.

Yes the chemicals leave people individually, but remain cycling in the local ecosystem indefinitely so keep entering the body as fast as leaving it.

It might not use rare earth metals, but sill needs large amouts of copper for the windings. The price of copper is rising rapidly just now and may be another bottleneck for production.

It was an interesting 'trial run' for a _real_ supply shock though.

And as a trial run, things didn't work out too well.

Does everybody else at your school or job have an electric vehicle? If not, you have nobody to teach you or no job to drive to,

Does everybody delvering goods to the store have an electric vehicle? If not, you have no food to buy.

Does everybody working at the power station have an electric vehicle? If not, you have no electricity, heating or tap water.

You need to stop concentrating on yourself and think about how everybody else is doing.

If SRAM can be made small enough that the speed-of-light limitation on signal path length is not a factor, could a processor with only SRAM be made? (i.e. no need for cache). I guess transistor switching speed is already fast enough if the processor is running at multiple GHZ and the registers are single cycle.

At some point soon it's all going to come crashing down, don't worry about it, just enjoy the time left before it does, because it will be a very different world afterwards.

Barcelona was likely carbon neutral in 1900 when the population was 0.5M and there were no cars or electricity. All it needs is a one-child/no-child policy and zero immigration for the next 30 years which would drop the current 1.5M population by two thirds, go back to horses and bicycles (which was obviously working fine 100 years ago) and bingo, carbon neutral city again.
