Comment I will relisten to music but not rewatch films/TV (Score 1) 110

The advantage of physical media is being able to consume even if I don't have access to a streaming service that has the rights.

There is a lot of music that I have listened to over and over again (listening to Alternative Ulster as I type this) but very few movies or TV series that I will rewatch. So I have rarely bought DVDs or VHS tapes but have (at least years ago) bought LPs tapes and CDs.

During the Northeast blackout of 2003 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... I was working in Philadelphia, just south of the blackout area. I was able to call home to NYC because of an old fashioned phone that just plugged into the phone jack and didn't need any external power supply. The phone system ran it's own power over the old fashioned copper wire.

Submission + - Dartmouth College reinstates standardized test result submission for admissions

ardmhacha writes: After making the submission of SAT/ACT results optional (along with most other colleges in the US) for admissions because of the disruptions due to COVID-19 they announced that they will requires test submission for the Class of 2029 (admission in Fall 2025). They announced https://admissions.dartmouth.e... "Informed by new research, Dartmouth will reactivate the standardized testing requirement for undergraduate admission beginning with applicants to the Class of 2029".

A study https://home.dartmouth.edu/sit... conducted by the college found that "SAT and ACT scores are highly predictive of academic performance at Dartmouth." and that "certain non-test score inputs in the admissions process, such as guidance counselor recommendations, do not predict college performance even though they do advantage more-advantaged applicants at IvyPlus institutions, increasing their admissions chances."

MIT had previously reinstated the SAT/ACT requirement https://www.nytimes.com/2022/0...

I have had it over 2 years, usage up to 1.1 GB / month usually below 1GB. Speedwise it it fine, latency is not great but my kids don't play many online games do it is not a major issue. Bulk of the usage comes from streaming.

TMHI has always had the lowest priority QCI 9, so this probably won't have much practical effect. Some new customers have the second lowest priority QCI 8 and will drop to QCI 9 after 1.2 GB
