I'm going to hazard a guess that they'll have a difficult time defeating the disabling because of Western sanctions making equipment and parts difficult to obtain. They may have the know-how, but not the necessary materiel.

Selling short a stock you own is called "shorting against the box" and effectively freezes your price. It used to be a common technique for dodging taxes because, if you thought a drop was imminent, you could "sell" your appreciated stock at the current price without actually selling and realizing a profit from it. Congress eliminated that dodge.

Thanks for allowing our industry to move offshore.

Even assuming this all started with Reagan (who had a Democratic Senate by the way), his term of office ended in 1988 and there have been three Democratic Presidents since then, some of whom had a Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress for some of their terms.

Comment Ulcers were caused by stress, until they weren't (Score 1) 450

A while back, it was known for a fact that stomach ulcers and stomach cancer were caused by excess acid and stress. Then an internist named Barry Marshall theorized, and proved to his satisfaction that the real cause was a bacterium, helicobacter pylori. He presented his work at the annual meeting of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Perth, and got treated like he'd said the Earth was flat. He was subsequently vindicated, and now the common treatment for stomach ulcers is antibiotics. Stomach cancer, once common, has nearly disappeared from the West. The point is, if he'd been pushing his theory today, he'd probably be facing censorship for "misinformation" and maybe he'd be facing disciplinary action too.

Comment Was other forensic evidence consistent? (Score 1) 98

What I'd like to know is whether anybody bothered evaluating the other evidence at the scene (i.e. inside the car). Were gunshot residue, blood spatter, and entry wound consistent with a shot from inside the vehicle toward the passenger, or was it more in keeping with a shot from the outside as Williams claimed? It shouldn't have taken a damned year for that evaluation. And where was William's lawyer in this? If the cops were takiing their sweet time on the investigation, the lawyer should have been agitating for his release. Was that done? There's a lot left unanswered in this story.

You omitted to mention, just off the top of my head, 1) James Damore, the Google engineer who was fired for saying that, just maybe, there are valid reasons besides sexism to explain the lack of females in tech and that using discrimination to correct the balance would be wrong. 2) Youtube deleted a video by the scientist who invented the mRNA vaccine, citing his concerns and findings that the vaccine could be hazardous when administered to younger, healthier people.

Comment Yay, enhanced ticketing (Score 1) 57

Think about it: if the city knows that a car hasn't moved from a spot for 2 hours (or less in certain locations that allow less parking time), it likely is overtime on its meter. So they'll vector a meter maid to that location posthaste to write a citation. Also, some cities have laws that say a car must be moved after a certain amount of time in a metered spot. You can ticket them for that too.
