I hope that you don't receive/open/use any files that you have not created and have had full custody of. You are ripe for exploiting if you do...

I appreciate the concern but I am comfortable with the setup. My customers send me spreadsheets all the time but Excel is set not to autorun anything and warns me if anything looks like code. I get warnings opening my own SQL functions cheatsheet because it sees code snippets. If I feel I have to open an odd attachment it is opened in a sandbox - and that goes for all file types, not just office.

Interesting that you mentioned 19 years. I buy a new computer every 3-5 years and each time I pull out my Office 2003 CDs and install them again. I run my consulting business with Excel and Access and these versions do everything I need. I have learned to use the newer versions but I am much faster with the legacy versions. For drafting correspondence and blog posts I prefer WordPad.

That is true, but in this case there was a second step toward validation:
"To further verify their findings, the team created model cells of Alzheimer's disease in the lab using stem cells and treated them with sildenafil. The drug not only increased brain cell growth but also decreased hyperphosphorylation of tau proteins, a process that usually leads to tangles."
Not proof, but more than simple correlation.

1) Technology companies are pushing back, and it is enough to get the Intel folks to complain. This gives the average Joe more tools to work with.
2) Congress is also pushing back. I am amazed at how the Intel folks can say (with a straight face) "congress approved all this and was fully briefed and should have known". Because many in congress don't feel like they were appropriately briefed. I think that is behind the recent stalemate in congress.

I read that some small towns around Paris had their Websites defaced with the ISIS flag. I am surprised the Anons haven't thought of defacing a few ISIS leaning web sites with images of the cartoons in question or something similar. That way, instead of the terrorists feeling like they reduced the distribution of the images they will actually be faced with more of the images right on the sites they use. And this gets the images out there without giving ISIS any new targets. OTOH if the Anons take-down an ISIS site it would probably just deprive the NSA and MI5 of some valuable intelligence. This is something more within their skillset.

Submission + - Anonymous Declares War on Al-Qaeda ISIS (mirror.co.uk) 1

An anonymous reader writes: In a video release today showing an anonymous member from the Belgian branch wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, Anonymous says "We will track you down — every last one — and will kill you. You allowed yourselves to kill innocent people, we will therefore avenge their deaths."

Considering that the various governments in the world have more-or-less failed to stop ISIS and Al-Qaeda, perhaps it is time for a more vigilante brand of justice.

Submission + - Anonymous declares war over Charlie Hebdo attack (cnn.com) 2

mpicpp writes: Anonymous declared war on Islamic extremists Friday and promised to take revenge for the attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hedbo.
In a video posted on YouTube, the group of hackers said they would track down websites and social media networks linked to terrorists, and take them down.

"We, Anonymous around the world, have decided to declare war on you the terrorists," it said.

The video is described as a message for "al Qaeda, the Islamic State and other terrorists," and promises to avenge the killing of 12 people in Wednesday's attack.
"We intend to take revenge in their name, we are going to survey your activities on the net, we are going to shut down your accounts on all social networks," Anonymous said.

kdataman writes: Live Action and Legos, MineCraft and Muppets, Pets and Produce. 480 fan-created 15-second clips have been assembled to remake the entire movie, scene for scene (but not always word for word). The variations swing from professional production values to cardboard cutouts, but they are all creative and many are hilarious. Hard to pick a favorite scene but the guys at MTV selected a few highlights: http://www.mtv.com/news/196080...
