Researchers hope the adaptation of a humble household item could be a new weapon for battling weeds that cost Australia $4 billion each year.

Microwaves mounted on a trailer have proven to reduce weed emergence and improve grain yields.

The technology has been 11 years in the making for Melbourne University senior lecturer Graham Brodie.

"We are using microwave heating to cook plants and seeds that are in the soil, and that gives us an edge over some of the herbicide-resistant weeds emerging nowadays," Dr Brodie said.

OMG grown ups support open source when ever possible.

I've been using the Nightly FF for years... There was some issues when they first implemented separate browser processes per tab but generally it's been far better than a Microsoft program or OS. And bug tracking is open and fully exposes the developers and those using the software to a true sense of equality of information. The only down side currently is changes to the plugin structure which will take some time for plugin developers to catch up.

Perhaps not great for you mother but a good opportunity to participate in development and test for the rest of us.

Facebook might just be too lazy to find the said posts but they certainly have an army of pro-Israel moderators that will delete whole accounts that are reported to them. And I'm not talking about incitement to violence but for the most petty excuses. To suggest that Facebook don't act as the thought police is really quite deceptive.

We care about holocaust denial because we seek to not see fascism directed at the Jewish community. Yet when we see fascism directed by the Jewish community at Palestinians we are near blind. Which is most likely to cause future issues for Jews? Holocaust denial or shooting the crap out of Palestinians, locking up Palestinian children in jail, bulldozing homes of Palestinians, building an illegal nuclear program in Israel... if we are concerned about what has an impact on Jews then we should be far more concerned about the rising tide of fascism in Israel than some minor group of fools engaged in holocaust denial.
