When it's difficult to have a rational conversation with someone who's irrationally afraid of the idea of guns, I like to use this thought experiment.

If the person is clueless to the point of knowing just how many laws there are concerning guns already, I point them at the Vice documentary titled "Armed and reasonable" which is about Canadian gun laws.
