Genuine curiosity: If you're going to buy a laptop for running Linux, why would you go with a MacBook (particularly with Apple Silicon) as opposed to a competing x86-64 laptop with hardware officially supported - or open enough to be readily supported - in Linux? You'll have access to a far greater selection of distros and binaries. Potentially less expensive, and you'll have fuller access to all of the laptop's hardware features.

The Asahi project is cool as hell and is on my radar for the day that my M2 Air no longer receives MacOS updates, but for now I'd hesitate to put any reliance on it other than to help the project with testing and development.

With little to no documentation on the hardware and zero support from the manufacturer, this is pretty goddamn impressive.

The Magic Mouse has no visible buttons, but the entire thing is a capacitive-sensitive platform on top of a single mechanical button. It provides all the functionality of a multi-button mouse with a scrolling "wheel", but aesthetically, there's only one button.

The Mighty Mouse could be described very similarly, though it had the scroll ball and it had those weird side buttons. I think they activated Exposé. It also couldn't register simultaneous right and left clicks, which was lame. And that was what... 2005? Every Apple mouse prior to that was a single-button mouse, regardless of whether or not the computer supported the extra input.

I agree, arguing about it is completely moot. As soon as USB support came, I switched away from using Apple's awful mice anyway.

Their single-button mice carried on well through the 90's and all the way into the OS X era. I seem to recall using a third-party two-button serial mouse on a System 7 Mac and while the right-click didn't actually do anything in Finder, there were some games that supported it.

Even the latest generation of mice that ship with Macs carry forward with the single-button aesthetic, even if they readily offer right-clicking and various other gestures through the use of touch sensitivity.

I was on the "One a Day" vitamins for approximately one week before I threw them in the trash. It made me feel like I had a persistent hangover that I couldn't shake off.

Fuck off with that "rent free" shit. He's about to be on the 2024 ballot and should be very much on every citizen's radar.

Exploitable Windows vulnerabilities != Exploitable human error

I remember when Windows 10 upgrade notifications made it easy to decline and stick with Windows 7, when it was still under support.

And then, one morning, my Windows 7 PC was running Windows 10 without my consent.

Slows the skids down. Most of them don't know (or don't want to spend the time) fiddling with NMAP on every public IP address.

Remarkable (and depressing) to consider that they're planning ahead to a time when I will likely be dead.

There is one way to deal with and it has already very well-documented for decades:

Don't use weak passwords.

You can take it a step farther and eliminate the use of passwords altogether or I don't know, keep port 22 behind a firewall unless you absolutely need it. But this isn't a Linux flaw at all.
