Journal smallbusinessessilik's Journal: What are the Psychological Problems Sufferers have with Grief and Loss?

Losing a loved one is difficult for most people to go through. When someone dies after a lingering illness the people close to the one who passes have a degree of time to prepare for the death. When someone dies due to unforeseen circumstances it can have a totally different effect on those who are close to the individual who dies. In cases where someone is killed or murdered the expertise of a trained psychologist can help grieving individuals learn to cope with their loss.

Losing a Spouse

It is not easy to deal with the loss of a husband, wife or significant other. In most cases this person has become an integral part of your life. You rely on them to be there on a regular basis to share in the good times and the bad. When this person dies, the remaining part of the couple feels a huge sense of grief and loss. Couples create a bond, which often makes them participate in life as a united and single entity. When part of this entity is gone, the other part can have trouble interacting with others or even going through their daily routine. Getting the help of a trained professional will help them learn to live as an individual again.

When a Loved One Dies Unexpectedly

People who lose someone because of an act of violence often end up with psychological problems. These problems can manifest in any of the following ways:

The Inability to Trust People Never Feeling Completely Safe and Secure Becoming Angry at Everything and Everyone Sleeplessness Loss of Appetite Losing the Will to Live

These conditions all impact the quality of life a person has after experiencing such a traumatic event. When these conditions persist for an unusually long period of time they disrupt the flow of living a normal life. In some cases people will have such as tremendous sense of loss they cannot function in society the way they used to. This can lead to poor job performance, which can end up in being let go from the company.

People who experience extreme cases of grief due to losing someone they loved, can also alienate the remaining members of their family. It is not uncommon for couples who lose a child to break up because one or both people cannot work through the grief. People who have other children, often alienate them because they feel guilty and not entitled to happiness.

Learning to Live Again

While no one wants to see someone they love die, the fact is it is a natural part of life. It is also natural to go through the different stages of grief, but eventually people move past them. Anyone who feels trapped within their own emotions can find help online through websites such as www.drstevensguille.com/services.htm. Counseling is available for anyone no matter what type of loss they have experienced. Trained psychologists can help people release the grief which binds them so they can feel free to live, laugh and love again.
