GNU Tutorial Tool? 3

proBETA asks: "Is there a GNU tool for making tutorials? With a rising demand for documentation, a common tool would be great. So I just wonder if there are any such projects going on. How about recording and playback of X-windows (with mouse movement, typing, and graphics) along with explaining text boxes."

GNU Tutorial Tool?

  • There is SliTeX to create slides for presentations, alas this program likley to be too complicated for Joe User.

What this frame thingee in MS Office, is there some clone available?

Or maybe some GIMP plugin that gives a presentation mode..

  • For the popup text boxes, dialog or kdialog can do a very nice job as it allows one to write the tutorial in shell, running programs when necessary, etc..

To automatically move the mouse around and click buttons, you might want to check out the source for LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) which does just that. Make a nice command-line program that can move the mouse around and click on widgets.

Actually, this seems interesting. It's something we kind of need at this point, I think. You could even write a tutorial builder in TCL/TK or something.
  • KPresenter ? or theres that slide show thing that alan cox was talking about a while back...M-something. forget its name....look at alan cox's diary (http://linux.org.uk/diary) archives..its buried deep somewhere.
I'd code one if i thought it was really important to me, but since its not and i have to concentrate on more important things like sentinel i guess someone else will have to do it.
