Ask Slashdot: Music Sequencers for Linux?

Benedict Roff-Marsh surprised me with this good one: "What I am wondering is if there are any other music software (sequencer) developers creating alternatives to the established Cubase/Logic/Performer/Vision/Cakewalk etc. The reason is that I feel that there are things that could be interesting sequencer features that are either not implemented, or not fully implemented. I am a professional level musician currently running a Mac with Opcode's Vision, which I am fairly happy with. I like the Apple but am prepared to consider a Intel style machine if I don't have to be stuck with Microsoft operating systems."
To be honest, I don't know of anything out there that currently does this, but that doesn't mean that their aren't any. Such applications like these I consider part of a specialized market that Linux hasn't quite broken into yet. Barring some enterprising OSS coder with a mission, is there any way to convince the companies that produce programs like Cubase and Cakewalk that Linux might be a platform to port to?
