SVGAlib based animated GIF players?

Slashdot reader Robert Edmonds asks: i am looking for an svgalib animated gif viewer. i've looked all over sunsite, lsm, etc. and cannot find any decent console animated gif viewers. zgv only displays the first frame, and xanim only works in x windows. I think something like this would be nifty! If one doesn't exist, how difficult would it be to port one of the programs already existing for X-Windows?
