Journal Journal: Phone Companies Refuse to Give Congress Data on Spy Program 279

"Three of the largest U.S.telephone companies declined to answer a congressional panel's questions about Bush administration efforts to spy on Americans' phone calls and e-mails, citing the government's position that releasing the information would be illegal. Congress approved a temporary measure in July to continue letting spy agencies intercept, without a court warrant, phone calls and e-mails of foreign-based terrorists that are routed through the U.S. Lawmakers currently are working on new surveillance legislation."
