Zorin OS is immune to viruses thanks to Linux's advanced security features. Software updates and security patches are available for many years. Zorin OS runs lightning fast and doesn’t slow down when it comes to updates. The Lite edition runs fast on computers older than 15 years. This allows you to breathe new life into your old PCs. Zorin OS includes powerful apps right out of the box, including a complete Microsoft Office-compatible office suite and professional photo editing software. There are many more apps and games available at the Software store and Steam.

Zorin is My Distro for 2026

    Date: Apr 06 2026

Summary: It's well worth giving it a test run on a live usb. (Don't install over your current system if you're not backed up).

It is also best to use software that is designed for the OS. Rufus is not designed for Linux. I installed a software found in the Zorin software center called "Impression" Flatpak. It worked fine.

Positive: I've used Linux at various capacities for the last 15 years and been reviewing distro's for a complete Windows replacement. Zorin offers the best all in one package right out of the box. My choices narrowed down to Mint, Fedora, KDE Neon and Zorin.

Negative: I don't like that it uses the Canonical product Ubuntu. I'd like to get away from corporate changes.

Also, I wish it would update a little quicker than the Ubuntu LTS. Technology changes way too fast.

    Great distribution based on Ubuntu

    Date: Feb 25 2022

Summary: Overall, Zorin OS is an excellent distro based on Ubuntu that you should try if you're wanting to choose an Ubuntu-based distro.

Positive: Ubuntu-based: Zorin OS is based on the LTS release of Ubuntu.
Desktop: Zorin OS includes GNOME but it is customized by default, and you have more choices on the settings.

Negative: I don't have any problems with Zorin OS, I think it is a great distro.

    Overhyped, under performing

    Date: Nov 09 2025

Summary: For a distribution that likes to blow it's own trumpet for being the ideal Windows replacement after using Zorin 18 for a few weeks I can safely say it's reputation is thoroughly undeserved. There's nothing here that isn't done better elsewhere and to add the final insult you can't just use Rufus like with literally any other Linux distribution you now HAVE to use balenaEtcher that if you read the small print likes to collect data. Its slower than Rufus too. Zorin is easily the worst distribution I've used. If you really must have a Ubuntu distribution go with Rhino, Pop!_OS or KDE Neon instead.

Positive: Pros? What Pros? At least the boot process is clean.

Negative: Old kernel and old drivers out of the box, doesn't offer rolling updates, poor 3D performance benchmarks, poor storage device benchmarks and its customisation is low. Also took an eternity "checking" the md5, then refused to load to the live environment on the first attempt so had to do the process all over again.
