Whisperstream is a dictation application designed for both Windows PCs and Apple silicon Macs (currently in beta) that transforms spoken language into written text within the active field of various applications through a simple push-to-talk shortcut. Once the necessary speech-recognition models are installed, users can dictate without an internet connection. The app features several available models, including NVIDIA Parakeet, Qwen3 ASR, and Cohere Transcribe. Users also have the option to utilize the on-device Stream-1 Mini model or a provider of their choice for additional cleanup. Among its many features, Whisperstream offers custom vocabulary settings, text replacement options, app-specific enhancement profiles, an easily searchable transcript history, the ability to transcribe audio files, and voice playback capabilities alongside interactive replies for sessions using Claude Code and Codex. It allows dictation in compatible text fields seamlessly without the need for additional add-ins and is particularly useful for individuals who prefer to dictate in coding editors, emails, documents, and other software applications. However, it is important to note that downloading models, performing software updates, and accessing certain optional online features may necessitate an internet connection for optimal functionality.
