VisualEditor Description
The Editing team created the VisualEditor project to create a reliable rich text editor for MediaWiki. VisualEditor can be used as a MediaWiki extension that uses the Parsoid project for HTML+RDFa. However, its core implementation is compatible with MediaWiki, Parsoid and Node.js. The visual editor is now available to all MediaWiki.org users and almost all Wikivoyages. It is also available as an opt in Beta Feature for logged-in users on other Wikimedia languages and Wikimedia projects. VisualEditor is not available in all namespaces. It is only available in the main namespace. However, it is generally not available in discussion or template namesspaces. The single most significant challenge facing Wikimedia was the decline in new contributor growth. VisualEditor was created to remove technical obstacles that could be avoided in Wikimedia's editing interface. This is a prerequisite for increasing Wikimedia contributors.
