Seems great so far Date: Jun 27 2021
Summary: Overall, I think SoundCloud is a great solution for anyone looking to get started with audio online. Their Basic license is free and can get you started very easily.
Positive: I’ve been using it to start hosting some of my audio files for music and podcasts. It’s a great place to get started because their free version allows you to still upload a decent amount without any issue.
Negative: I mean, the limits for the basic version are not ideal. You only get 4 GB per month which is about 3 hours. This means a ton for music creators, but for podcast creators that can be limiting, depending on the length and frequency of your podcast episodes.

Possibly the biggest place to discover up and coming artists Date: May 30 2021
Summary: Really pleased by the network of artists Soundcloud has fostered, but less than happy with its user interface.
Positive: Soundcloud is the place to go to find the latest original works (tracks and podcasts), remixes, and samples. Its automated copyright detection system ensures that the audio files you can find are novel, and many up and coming artists got their start on Soundcloud. There is also what feels like a rudimentary social network system that you can use to find similar artists based on how they interact via comments and votes.
Negative: The interface on desktop wasn't the most intuitive for me. I endured feeling like I was at risk of going deaf for a few months before finally figuring out how to change the volume on individual tracks...

Can be useful, but not alone Edited: Nov 18 2020
Summary: Soundcloud focuses exclusively on audio, unlike YouTube where you can find music, sounds, or videos. This makes it great for people uploading interviews, podcasts, music, and ambient recordings, but like YouTube, it's hard to stand out and it's equally hard to discover good content. I think it'd work best with a Bandcamp account and a social media account or two. For people who just want to share a few things with a small audience, the free account will probably be enough.
Positive: The free version has a cap with how many minutes you can upload, but the amount they allow is pretty generous and enough to test it out. Combined with some social media presence elsewhere, and this is a great place to upload your music or other audio. It's easy to upload, and you can choose whether or not someone can download your tracks.
Negative: It's not as popular as YouTube, and I find Bandcamp is much better for finding specific, niche things. Soundcloud, like all the popular sites is also oversaturated with people so you really need to work to make yourself stand out from everyone else. Likewise, on the audience end, it's a mess to find something worth listening to.
