Summary: For early-to-growth-stage startups looking for sector-specific investors, SMERGERS is a genuine alternative to expensive intermediaries. The quality of the investor pool and the structured introduction process are both significantly better than I expected.
Positive: We listed our EdTech startup on SMERGERS, looking for Series A investors with specific experience in the education sector. I was not expecting much from an online platform; most of our previous attempts through LinkedIn and broker introductions had produced low-quality leads. SMERGERS was different. Within a month, we had four introductions, three of which were genuinely relevant to our profile. The valuation guidance on the platform helped us go into conversations with a clear and defensible number. We are currently in final discussions with one investor we met through the platform. The onboarding was smooth, and the support team responded quickly every time we had a question.
Negative: The platform works best when your profile is very complete. Early on, we were not getting strong matches, and after we updated our financial data and tightened our business description, the quality of introductions improved noticeably. Worth spending time on the profile setup.
