The 3D Creator allows you to scan objects 3D. The latest version includes five scan modes: selfie scan, face scans, head scans, food scans, and freeform scans. The 3D Creator preinstalled on the Xperia 1, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 compact, Xperia XZ2 compact, Xperia XZ2 premium, Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3. The 3D Creator is now available for the Xperia XZ Premium as part of Android 8.0 (Oreo). The calibration is the first step in the scanning process. Camera takes images while you move slowly around the object. An algorithm then analyzes the images for distinguishing characteristics. A point cloud is formed based on the orientation of the camera and the captured images. The point cloud is very rough and lacks color. A mesh is created based on the point cloud information. Simply put, the mesh is a collection of 3D points known as vertices. The algorithm creates the mesh by using the points from the cloud. This allows it to form itself after scanning the object.
