QStart Description

Our entry-level QStart software teleprompter software is now available for free download. This will allow everyone to experience the benefits of an Autocue Teleprompter. QStart is the entry level teleprompting program from Autocue. QPro and QMaster are available for more complicated requirements. QStart lets you import scripts directly from a text file or word document. Scripts can be formatted using common Windows functionality, including different fonts, font sizes and colors, text alignment, and simple markers. To control the speed and direction of the script, a wired or wireless foot or hand control can be added. This can also be done using a mouse or keyboard attached directly to the computer. QStart has dual-screen capabilities so that the script can also be reversed to show the correct way on both the PC screen and the teleprompter.

    Simple, effective, clunky

    Date: Feb 08 2022

Summary: It works, it's free, it could be better. There's no more development on it. You can have a good production with it, but it takes some trial and error to learn the nuances of the settings. It isn't always straight forward.

Positive: Easy to load text in, colour, font options are good. Custom commands for quickly moving around the script are easy to create and reliable.

Negative: The layout of the settings doesn't make it easy to quickly find what you want to change to change it. You need to work with it a few times on site to learn which involves holding up production possibly even a few minutes.
Settings saving are hit or miss. You set up the entire program to your liking, move to a different site, only to find you have to do it all over again.
On extended display, the prompter scrolls smoothly but the operator display is jittery and you don't know if you're actually doing a good job a lot of the time. This is true even for powerful computers.
