Proton Drive Description
Proton Drive is the secure workspace for storing sensitive data and collaborating with confidence across teams, clients, and external partners.
With full end-to-end encryption, you can share files, contracts, and business documents securely — and stay in control at all times. Set passwords, expiration dates, or revoke access instantly. Files are encrypted on your device before upload, and only you and your collaborators can access them. Even Proton can’t see your data. Each user gets 1 TB of storage, and you can scale as your organization grows. Proton Drive is developed in Switzerland by the makers of Proton Mail. We’re independent, built on privacy-first principles, and free from Big Tech surveillance, lock-in, or monetization of user data. We offer more than secure storage:
- Real-time collaboration with Proton Docs
- Granular sharing controls for external and internal access
- File recovery for peace of mind
- Cross-device access, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android
We also help you meet compliance requirements out of the box. Proton Drive supports:
- GDPR, HIPAA, DORA, NIS2, and ISO 27001
- Independently audited SOC 2 Type II compliance
- No complex setup or third-party integrations required.
By choosing Proton Drive, you show your clients, partners, and regulators that privacy and security are built into your workflows — not an afterthought.

File Sharing Option: Excellent, but quirky Edited: May 31 2022
Summary: Using the Drive is great for personal use, not for Sharing, but the latter is one of the critical services associated with online storage.
Positive: The 'share' link leads recipients to a page with two options: Download Folder and Get your own Proton Drive.
The shared folder is linked to the second option, not the first. But not reliably, only for those already logged in to the Proton service. For anyone else, the first option must be used, and then many more steps to access the actual file(s).Negative: The link sharing is quite non-intuitive. Download Folder is what somebody new to the service will do, when sent a link to a shared folder. But to get to the actual shared files, you have to jump through hoops (download a zipped file, unzip it).

New to Proton Edited: Sep 02 2022
Summary: I've been using their [paid] VPN and it seems solid. As I said above, their e-mail and their cloud storage is easy to use and it's nice to have the three services integrated into one provider.
Positive: The web page designs are fresh, uncluttered and easy to read. I currently use MEGA and I'm considering paying Proton for full-service VPN, e-mail and Drive combined. The price for 500 GB of combined storage is around $7 / month prepaid on a 2-year basis. I think that's very reasonable if you're willing to commit.
I'm not a sharer but a daily user of cloud storage and Proton Drive's features suit me very well.Negative: Having to pay for 2 years in advance presumes a willingness to commit. I understand it's a business model but MEGA provides 400 GB (cloud storage only) for about the same ($6) month-to-month.
