Oracle MDM Description

Master data management (MDM) must be understood in its entirety. We need to first understand master data and distinguish it from master data management. Master data is critical business information that classifies and supports the enterprise's transactional and analytical data. It is also known as "enterprise" or "metadata" and can include application-specific metadata, alternative perspectives, corporate dimensions and reference data. Enterprise data can include chart of accounts and organization or cost-center structure, market segments, product types, and many other things. Master data management (MDM), does exactly what its name suggests: manages master data. MDM is a combination of technologies and applications that consolidate, cleanse, and augment master data and synchronize it with applications, business processes and analytical tools.
