Way cheaper for an easier API Date: Dec 28 2023
Summary: I used AWS a while ago and could never figure out pricing. After working for several AWS powered software companies I found their APIs to be anti-orthoganal and the bills to be astronomical. I use Linode for personal and now business and I could never go back. Linode has all the product offerings I need, and I have never had any issues. Cheaper, equivalent or better quality, easier to understand, all the features I need... really it is a no brainer. With Akamai behind them now I expect it to get even better (more data center and edge options/features). Support is very responsive with a ticketing system as you'd expect.
Positive: - straight forward and best pricing,
- have never had any downtime,
- love their product offerings (compute, s3, stackscripts, etc.)
- love their lack of up charging for everything,
- super slick UI with an API to match,
- what's not to love?Negative: - nothing for me currently, though looking at AWS product listing perhaps they could offer more case specific API's? ...though that's probably a feature, their slim API set, since AWS uses it for vendor locking and pricing obfuscation
