Kimi K3.1 Pro Description
Kimi K3.1 Pro is an advanced multimodal AI reasoning model developed by Moonshot AI for software engineering, autonomous agents, technical design, and analytical knowledge work. Built on the Kimi K3 architecture, the model uses approximately 2.8 trillion total parameters with 104 billion active parameters and supports a one-million-token context window. Its enhanced reasoning capabilities enable complex, multistep problem-solving across programming, scientific analysis, financial research, and business operations. Coding features include source code generation, debugging, repository-level modifications, automated testing, and end-to-end application development. The model can create interactive websites, Three.js environments, games, and software projects using development frameworks and engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot. Its spatial reasoning capabilities support CAD code generation, parametric modeling, 3D asset creation, and geometry adjustments through tools such as Blender. Financial analysis capabilities include spreadsheet modeling, document-based research, numerical reasoning, and investment analysis using information from multiple sources. Kimi K3.1 Pro supports text and image inputs, external tool use, and long-running agentic workflows that require planning and iterative execution. The model is accessible through Kimi applications and APIs, with an additional Highspeed version designed to deliver approximately two to three times faster responses.

Open weight frontier power Date: Oct 24 2026
Summary: Overall, Kimi K3.1 Pro is a HUGE step forward from K3. It is strong at coding, long-horizon agents, visual understanding, and professional research, while staying reasonably priced enough to use heavily.
Positive: I can give it a large coding job, a research project, or a multi-step agent workflow and it does a much better job staying organized all the way through. Coding is probably the biggest jump. Moonshot reports a 65.7% score on Terminal-Bench 4.0, ahead of GPT-6 Astra’s reported 58.2% and just behind Claude Opus 5.5 at 66.4%. It feels especially good for terminal work, repo-level changes, and tasks where the agent has to keep using tools for a while. The 1M-token context window is also genuinely useful. I can keep a huge amount of source code, documentation, financial material, screenshots, and prior work in context without constantly trimming things down.
Negative: The main downside is that the full weights are not available yet. Moonshot says they will be released soon, so the open-weight story is promising, but I would wait for that release before judging local deployment and customization.
