DriveCrypt Description

DRIVECRYPT offers a robust and effortless solution for safeguarding all sensitive data on laptops and desktop computers continuously, ensuring that users don’t need to worry about security measures. This disk encryption tool is suitable for organizations of any size, whether a small startup or a large multinational corporation with numerous remote users, allowing them to shield vital information such as business strategies, customer databases, product details, private corporate documents, financial data, and more. As data is accessed from the hard drive, DRIVECRYPT seamlessly decrypts it before it enters the system memory. When saving data back onto the hard drive, the application automatically re-encrypts it without any manual intervention. The entire process of disk encryption and decryption occurs transparently to both users and application programs, managed by an extension of the operating system that operates "on the fly" during the data transfer between the hard drive and memory. As a result, users can focus on their work without the need to remember complex security protocols or alter the regular functioning of their computers. This ensures a hassle-free experience while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information.

    Excellent

    Edited: Mar 27 2026

Summary: Been using DriveCrypt for data disks and other media for over 23 years now, apart from a couple of minor bugs in early versions I've never had any issues or lost any data when using it, despite numerous Windows crashes and issues over the years. In my experience the only thing that really can cause loss of data is defective disks or other media, and of course, that you lose your password or whatever method you use to unlock your data.

I've tried many other solutions but none of them have been able to match DriveCrypt in stability, reliability and ease of use. Once a disk/partition has been encrypted it works like any other disk/partition in any respect, and apart from having to enter your key when you boot up or restart (not necessary when awaking system from hibernate or sleep) you won't notice your disks/partitions are encrypted at all.

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with Securstar in any way, this review is based exclusively on my personal experience with this program.

Positive: Reliable, rock stable, fast (no noticeable encryption/decryption lag) and completely transparent in use.
Many different encryption schemes to choose from.
Very difficult to make brute force attacks
Low level password input (optional) to prevent key loggers from sniffing your password.
    Traveler edition included.
Lots of useful features and options, too many to mention here.
    Reasonable price.
Excellent support, both technical and for other issues.

Negative: The activation/deactivation system (you need to deactivate and reactivate to move the program to another PC) can be a bit complex to figure out at first, but they have done a good job making it as user friendly as possible.
