A seamless commenting tool but expensive

    Date: Jul 07 2020

Summary: I think Disqus is the most popular tool out there to set up commenting on your site. It is also quite easy to moderate the comments.

Positive: - It is literally so easy to use Disqus. You don't even have to go through the annoying login options. It is also quite simple to set up in your site.

Negative: - Disqus used to be free but they started putting ads on their basic version all of a sudden without telling anyone. The pricing model is quite prohibitory for simple blogs that don't earn much.

Run from Disqus, no really, run from them

    Date: Oct 21 2022

Summary: I wouldn't even suggest using this company to my worst enemy, Er, wait a minute, on second thought, I definitely would.

Positive: It has a good interface, and easily integrated onto my website, but read the cons, they far outweighed anything positive.

Negative: Firstly, I'm not a business, I just have a simple website, and relative to other comment platforms out there, it's expensive. The next thing is security-or should I say lack thereof - they definitely use/sell your data for marketing purposes, although it's well hidden. And quite possibly the worst thing of all, the biggest nail in the coffin, is right now, and at least for the last eight months, they offer zero customer support, I'm not kidding, they will not process any customer support tickets, what kind of company makes millions of dollars a year, and has no customer support? A ripoff one. I advise avoiding this company like the plague.

    Sketchy policies and business model

    Date: Dec 02 2021

Summary: If you have a personal site and don't really give a damn about user privacy, sure - this is an easy solution. If you are business of ANY size, just steer away. There are competitive products that give your users a better experience, and are more upfront about privacy issues.

Positive: It is easy to integrate this comment platform into a website, but better competing products are just as easy to integrate.

Negative: Extremely opaque about how they harvest data and resell it to 3rd parties. VERY confusing to users to see this and the associated T&C and opt-outs. Anonymous posting is possible, but requires the user providing an email address (again, very confusing to users).
