So much more than a Password Manager...

    Date: Jun 26 2021

Summary: I was a disgruntled Lastpass user for almost 10 years. Let's just say the software never quite found its groove but switching seemed daunting.
But frustration with LP only grew. So I decided to try other options and after much research and trials BitWarden was the clear winner as my new password manager.

One review space is hardly enough to cover all the things you can do with BitWarden. It's a password manager, yes, but it can be useful in so many more ways. I'll stick to the main ones here, but I strongly suggest trying it out with " database " in mind vs just " passwords ".

BitWarden is open source which lends to excellent stability and security. It works on Android, Browser extension, Apple and iOS and more. It's a huge timesaver to be able to store your 2FA key in the dedicated field for it and have it Autofill your OTP when applicable.

Each entry also has the option to add extra strings of encrypted or plain text which can be titled. Attachments, URLs, Folder categorizing, and exception rules are all supported. There is also a robust password generator which can be customized to fit your preferred style. I learned here about the advantages of ZXCVB password entropy.

Trust me, BitWarden does it all. Autofill works well (though it can get in the way when it's too eager) and security behavior is top notch such as anonymous keyboard entry on smart devices (no trackers).
(Autofill can be a little touchy sometimes but once you get used to it it's ok. I hope they address some of the buggy issues in a future update)

The other thing that I need to mention is how easy the transition was from Lastpass to BitWarden. It does most of it automatically! It does take some tweaking for more complicated entries but I was up and running in an hour. It turned out to be a good way to purge old passwords as well. I believe it is compatible with other managers like 1password.

I highly recommend the free version but moreso the pro version since you get encrypted file storage, OTP generation, flexible sharing, two step login and more. All that for such an affordable price! Impressive. There is also a family plan if that suits you.

I can't say enough good things about BitWarden and I'm very very particular with my password security! I could write an entire additional guide on how to use BitWarden to organize ALL your personal data and keep running logs. Maybe in a future update to my review. Once you try it you will probably get your own ideas too since it's so versatile. No need to look elsewhere - BitWarden is the new password manager king!

Positive: -Supports multiple encrypted fields within each entry
    -Supports 2FA OTP real-time generation
    -Easily upload attachments
    -Full feature version is affordable
    -Open Source code

Negative: -Autofill pop-up has no " X " button to dismiss unneeded password dialog
-Autofill box can get in the way and block the entry fields
-Sometimes doesn't recognize websites that are already saved
-Occasionally fills password in the " user name " box.
