Autodesk Design Review Description

Design Review CAD viewer software allows users to effortlessly view, annotate, print, and monitor modifications to both 2D and 3D files at no cost, without needing access to the original design applications. It supports a diverse range of file formats, such as DWF, DWFx, DWG, and DXF (which requires the installation of the complimentary DWG TrueView software), along with Adobe PDF and various image formats including .bmp, .jpg, .gif, .pcx, .pct, .png, .rlc, .tga, .tif, .mil, .cal, and many others. With user-friendly tools, individuals can measure, annotate, and examine 2D and 3D designs directly from their desktop. This software facilitates collaboration by enabling the sharing of changes with team members and stakeholders who do not possess the original design tools, thus reducing paper usage and minimizing potential misunderstandings. Users can benefit from advanced features specifically designed for DWF Viewer and Volo View, allowing them to open and inspect high-resolution drawings, maps, and models with ease. Additionally, the software provides capabilities to measure parts, areas, surfaces, and dimensions, leading to clearer and more precise communication. Users can also incorporate comments, details, and proposals for design modifications into their 2D and 3D files, fostering a more collaborative design review process. Overall, this tool streamlines the workflow, making it easier to manage design files effectively.

Good tool for design review and file viewing

    Date: Jan 15 2026

Summary: Overall my experience with Autodesk Design Review is positive. It does the job well for reviewing, commenting, and sharing design files. It saves time because not everyone needs full AutoCAD installed. Some improvements in UI and performance would make it better, but still a reliable tool for design review work.

Positive: Autodesk Design Review is very useful for viewing and checking design files without changing original drawings. I like that it supports many Autodesk formats and markup tools are easy to use. Commenting, measuring, and highlighting issues is simple and helps in team discussion. It is lightweight and runs smoothly on normal system. Good for engineers and reviewers who don’t need full CAD software.

Negative: The interface looks a bit old and not very modern. Sometimes large files take time to load. Limited editing options, mostly only for review purpose. Also support and updates feel slow compared to other Autodesk tools. Pricing can be confusing for new users.
