Over the last decade, institutional stockbroking has faced significant headwinds. Intense competition and regulatory scrutiny, as well as declining commission pools, have all contributed to the economics of this business. We have also seen a growing difference between clients' expectations of value-add versus broker compensation expectations. Investment research as a packaged service has not been commercially attractive.
