Rayfront is a platform independent toolkit that provides a graphic user interface to Radiance's lighting simulation software Radiance. It can be used as an extension to Autocad and Intellicad as well as the 3Dsolar modeller. Radiance is the industry standard for raytracing engines that simulate physically correct lighting (see comparisons). Radiance is available for free at LBNL. However, Rayfront allows people like me to use it on their desktops and in their local networks. Rayfront can be used with many other CAD or modelling programs. It reads all DXF files and has translators for a wide range of data formats. You can choose the commercial or free geometry modeler you prefer, and Rayfront will allow you to use its output data.
