Description
Overseeing our roadways and associated infrastructure, such as bridges and tunnels, is a significant endeavor that requires collaboration from various stakeholders. The OpenTMS ATMS serves as a data-centric decision support system and an advanced traffic management solution that is not limited to a specific platform and is constructed on an open architecture framework. Our modular design, which is recognized as top-tier, offers unparalleled flexibility and adaptability. You can select the specific modules that suit your requirements; the system is fully scalable, allowing for expansion as your needs change and grow. Additionally, the OpenTMS API facilitates support for mobile applications and system integration, connecting with more than 50 different device and system manufacturers. It seamlessly works with signal software, enabling both state and local road authorities to optimize device management while linking multiple regions through a single software instance. OpenTMS traffic management software, which is compatible with both workstations and tablets, can be easily customized to integrate various commercial or proprietary mapping data and layers, ensuring a tailored approach to traffic management. This versatility makes OpenTMS an ideal choice for organizations looking to enhance their traffic oversight capabilities.
Description
SCOOT operates as an advanced proactive system that modifies traffic signal settings in real-time to accommodate vehicles approaching intersections. In contrast, alternative systems rely on data from departing traffic, which results in timing changes that are often implemented too late to achieve optimal effectiveness. At the core of SCOOT lies an online traffic simulation model that evaluates a variety of potential timing adjustments in real-time, selecting the most efficient option. Other systems typically make modifications based on set parameter thresholds, such as traffic volumes or the number of arrivals on green, which restricts them to a single potential adjustment without prior effectiveness testing. SCOOT, on the other hand, consistently optimizes cycle length, splits, and offsets with each cycle by executing small, controlled modifications. Many alternative systems opt for larger adjustments on a much longer schedule, sometimes up to every 10 minutes, and some do not even optimize cycle length at all. Consequently, these other systems are significantly less adept at responding to the rapidly fluctuating conditions of traffic. This responsiveness makes SCOOT particularly advantageous in urban environments with dynamic traffic patterns.
