Description

Fly.io is a developer-focused cloud platform that provides fast, scalable infrastructure for running applications and services globally. It introduces Fly Machines, which are hardware-virtualized containers that launch instantly and run only when needed. The platform enables developers to deploy applications quickly without managing complex cloud configurations. With support for multiple programming frameworks, Fly.io allows users to build using the tools they already know. It offers secure sandbox environments, making it suitable for running untrusted or AI-generated code safely. The platform includes global deployment across multiple regions, ensuring fast response times for users everywhere. Built-in private networking and encryption enhance security and connectivity. Fly.io also provides flexible storage options, including fast local storage and durable object storage. Its autoscaling capabilities allow applications to handle varying workloads efficiently. Overall, Fly.io simplifies cloud infrastructure while delivering performance, flexibility, and scalability.

Description

boxd offers developers, engineering teams, and AI-agent applications access to persistent Linux virtual machines. Each virtual machine operates with its own kernel and features such as SSH access, a public HTTPS address, and persistent disk storage, allowing for the execution of software requiring a comprehensive computing environment, including Docker, systemd, long-running agents, and development servers, all within an isolated setup. Users have the ability to fork a live machine along with its memory and disk state, enabling them to experiment with alternative approaches without having to rebuild the entire environment; additionally, idle machines can enter a hibernation mode while preserving their disk state. Management of these machines is facilitated through SSH, a command-line interface, an API, and SDKs in Python and TypeScript. Organizations can easily integrate with platforms like GitHub, Linear, and Slack for enhanced collaboration. boxd can be operated as a managed cloud service located in Frankfurt, or it can be self-hosted on Linux infrastructure that supports KVM, with free deployment options available for configurations up to 16 vCPUs. Practical applications for boxd include cloud development environments, AI-agent test beds, background coding assistants, and staging environments for previews. This versatility makes it an excellent solution for teams looking to optimize their development workflows.
