Description

Fedora CoreOS is a minimal operating system that updates automatically and is designed for securely running containerized workloads at scale. It is accessible on various platforms, with more options anticipated in the near future. There are three distinct update streams for Fedora CoreOS (FCOS): stable, testing, and next. Typically, it is advisable to utilize the stable stream, but running some machines on the testing and next streams is encouraged to contribute feedback. When automating the installation of Fedora CoreOS, you will need to engage with stream metadata. Although Fedora CoreOS performs automatic in-place updates, it is a best practice to provision new machines using the latest available images. Notably, Fedora CoreOS does not provide a separate installation disk; instead, each instance is created from a general disk image that is tailored during the first boot using Ignition. Everything offered within this operating system is open source and free software, meaning not only can you use it without charge, but you also have the freedom to share, modify, and remix it according to your needs. This flexibility makes Fedora CoreOS an appealing option for developers and organizations looking for a robust and adaptable solution.

Description

RouterOS is an independent operating system derived from the Linux kernel that operates MikroTik devices and can be installed on a personal computer, transforming it into a fully functional router equipped with essential features. This OS is specifically designed for a wide range of networking tasks, including routing, firewall management, bandwidth control, wireless access point functionality, backhaul connections, hotspot gateways, and VPN services, among others. It offers support for secure VPNs suitable for home offices, advanced parental controls, intricate firewall configurations, IPsec hardware acceleration, VLAN implementation, and allows for user interface customization through branding and API access. Additionally, RouterOS incorporates the TR-069 protocol for tailored remote management and monitoring, along with the capability to send automatic notifications via email or SMS when certain events occur. Prospective users have the opportunity to evaluate RouterOS through demo addresses, enabling them to connect via SSH, desktop or mobile applications, or a web browser to familiarize themselves with the platform before installation. Furthermore, individuals can utilize an x86 machine to run RouterOS by downloading the ISO image, booting from it, and experiencing all the available features during the trial phase, making it a versatile option for networking solutions. This flexibility allows businesses and individuals to assess the system's capabilities comprehensively before making a commitment.
