The UPLAN Advanced Clearing Engine (UPLAN-ACE) is designed to facilitate day-ahead market operations using protocols established by operators, while also executing real-time economic dispatch in 5-minute increments throughout each operational hour. This innovative system seamlessly merges both day-ahead generation offers and real-time demand bids to optimize the delivery of energy and ancillary services for hourly operations as well as 5-minute dispatches. One of the standout features of UPLAN-ACE is its ability to effectively model the variable and intermittent characteristics of emerging technologies, including batteries, flywheels, and other rapid-response solutions. Furthermore, the Real-Time Model (RTM) not only replicates the scheduling process for the hour ahead but also manages real-time dispatch every 5 minutes, relying on the commitment schedules from the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and forecasting real-time load requirements. It performs dispatch operations on a 5-minute cycle, incorporating optimal power flow calculations, and ultimately generates locational marginal prices (LMPs), imbalance schedules, and updated dispatch information. This comprehensive approach ensures that UPLAN-ACE can adapt to the dynamic nature of modern energy systems while providing accurate and timely forecasts for market participants.
