Description
SafeCAN is a patented ultra-lightweight network security solution designed to authenticate and encrypt communications between electronic control units (ECUs) without introducing any network overhead. It ensures the integrity of the sender and the data for each message, effectively preventing unauthorized ECUs and physical tampering from compromising the system. Additionally, SafeCAN secures in-vehicle communications to thwart potential over-the-air (OTA) malware attacks. The innovative approach of SafeCAN allows for the exchange of encryption keys during the manufacturing process, eliminating the need for key swaps while the vehicle is operating, which is a common issue with other solutions. Unlike competing technologies that increase network traffic by sending extra validation messages, SafeCAN cleverly embeds validation information within the redundant bits of each message, thus avoiding additional payloads.
