BrowserOS is an open-source web browser that is agent-enabled and built on a fork of Chromium, integrating AI agents seamlessly into the online experience to facilitate task automation, navigation, and interaction with web applications using natural language commands. Users can log into websites as they normally would, and by issuing simple instructions such as “extract the quarterly results from this webpage and update a spreadsheet,” BrowserOS creates and executes a local, repeatable agent that takes care of clicks, form submissions, and other navigational tasks on their behalf. It comes equipped with a split-view feature that provides access to prominent large language models like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, while also allowing for local model execution through platforms such as Ollama, ensuring it works harmoniously with existing Chrome extensions, bookmarks, and passwords. The browser enhances productivity by offering semantic search capabilities for browsing history and bookmarks, highlighting tools, and the option to set up MCP (Model-Context-Protocol) servers specifically for applications like Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Notion, transforming it into a comprehensive productivity tool. Kitesurf is an innovative browser tailored specifically for AI agents, operating entirely on Cloudflare Workers rather than relying on Chromium. This browser prioritizes the essential needs of agents, focusing on aspects such as structured machine-readable content, efficient scalability, minimal CPU and memory consumption, and secure interaction with potentially untrustworthy web pages, all while eschewing unnecessary human-centric features like tabs, themes, extensions, or perfectly smooth scrolling. Treating each page load as potentially untrusted, Kitesurf initiates every session in a clean state, ensuring that components are segregated and have access only to the resources necessary for their operations. Utilizing native Rust compiled to WebAssembly when feasible, the architecture is structured around three main components: the Engine, PageScript, and PageRenderer. The Engine facilitates interaction through Chrome DevTools Protocol WebSocket and REST APIs, while managing session state, and PageScript is responsible for parsing HTML and CSS, executing JavaScript, and running WebAssembly within isolated Workers. Overall, Kitesurf exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to browser design, catering exclusively to the unique requirements of AI-driven tasks.
