Description

Bitcoin has established itself as a reliable store of value protocol, while Stacks aims to demonstrate that it can serve as the foundation for a user-owned internet. By introducing scalable transactions and dynamic smart contracts to the Bitcoin ecosystem, Stacks effectively utilizes Bitcoin's substantial $1 trillion capital. The registration of .BTC domains occurs through a smart contract on Stacks, which is secured by the Bitcoin network. This contract features a decentralized name registry developed in Clarity language, where ownership of each .BTC name is encoded as a hash on the Bitcoin blockchain. Instead of overwhelming the Bitcoin blockchain with individual name registrations, numerous Stacks transactions can be consolidated into a single transaction on the Bitcoin blockchain. The web bridge enables btc.us to function as a top-level domain, affording users the ability to create personal subdomains. While the web bridge operates as a centralized service, the .BTC names themselves remain decentralized. Looking ahead, enhancements to .btc resolution in web browsers could significantly improve user experience and accessibility. This evolution could lead to a more integrated and efficient use of Bitcoin as a foundational element of the web.

Description

BitcoinOS (BOS) is a flexible, open-source smart contract framework aimed at enhancing Bitcoin's capabilities with scalability, interoperability, and programmability, all while preserving the integrity of its foundational layer. By leveraging zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs via the BitSNARK protocol, BOS allows for the implementation of smart contracts directly on Bitcoin's mainnet, thereby enabling the development of decentralized applications (dApps), decentralized finance (DeFi), and seamless cross-chain interactions. The architecture of BitcoinOS is structured into three distinct layers: the foundational Bitcoin Core layer, an execution layer that consolidates and optimizes transactions, and a computational layer made up of interoperable rollups known as Execution Environment Modules (EEMs). These EEMs are designed to accommodate a variety of virtual machines, including the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and environments based on Rust, which empowers developers to create applications using diverse programming languages. This innovative approach not only broadens the scope of what can be achieved on the Bitcoin network but also fosters a more collaborative ecosystem for developers and users alike.
