Description
Alfacast is a screen mirroring and streaming application that allows users to send live desktop or mobile video to other devices over a local network. The application is available across macOS, iOS, tvOS, Fire OS, Android, Android TV, Wear OS, Linux, and Windows, making it suitable for mixed-device environments. Its peer-to-peer architecture enables direct device-to-device streaming, while peer-to-many support allows a single source to broadcast to multiple viewers simultaneously. Desktop systems can stream to as many as 32 channels at once, while supported mobile devices can broadcast to up to eight channels. Alfacast includes automatic local-network discovery, so compatible devices can be detected without QR codes, manual IP entry, or individual user setup. The platform supports H.264, H.265, VP8, and VP9 video codecs and automatically selects the encoder on the streaming side while allowing decoder selection on the viewing device. Video can be streamed at resolutions up to 4K Ultra HD and frame rates of up to 60 frames per second. Alfacast is completely software-based and does not require a separate streaming server, dedicated hardware appliance, or centralized server node. Connections and broadcasts are protected using end-to-end encryption with AES and RSA methods. Alfacast is intended for home users, educators, presenters, businesses, and technical teams that need cross-platform screen mirroring or multi-device broadcasting with minimal setup.
Description
SecondScreen is a specialized app aimed at advanced users who regularly link their Android devices to external screens. It seamlessly integrates with your current screen mirroring setup to enhance your viewing experience. With this app, users have the ability to adjust the resolution and pixel density of their device to better suit their TV or monitor, activate desktop mode in Chrome, and even disable the backlight, alongside a host of additional functionalities. However, this application necessitates elevated permissions, which can only be obtained through rooting the device or using adb shell commands. Without root access or adb capabilities, the app will be nonfunctional. It is specifically designed for devices running AOSP or Google experience ROMs, and its performance on devices with manufacturer-customized ROMs is not assured. Importantly, SecondScreen does not include its own screen mirroring features; users may need an MHL/SlimPort adapter or a wireless solution like Miracast or Chromecast for screen mirroring purposes. Overall, SecondScreen stands out as a powerful tool for optimizing the use of Android devices with external displays.
