Dramatron is a system that makes use of large language models. This could be helpful for authors who are co-writing screenplays and theatre scripts. Dramatron uses hierarchical story generation to ensure consistency across the generated text. Dramatron interactively generates plot points, character descriptions, location descriptions, and dialogue starting from a log line. These generations are available to human authors for editing, rewriting, and compilation.
Dramatron was designed as a writing tool, and as a source for inspiration and exploration by writers. We conducted two-hour-long user study sessions with Dramatron to evaluate its usability and capabilities. This included 15 screenwriters and playwrights.
Dramatron can be used by creative communities in concrete ways. One playwright staged four heavily edited and rewritten scripts that were co-written with Dramatron.
