You can give them the opportunity to make any pre-arrival arrangements, notify them when their room will be ready, and ask them how they are after they have checked in. After they have checked out, you can thank them for staying. Negative feedback is not only difficult to gather, but it also makes it less likely that guests will leave positive feedback.
