HurLoss, ARA's hurricane catastrophe model, is designed to help property insurers, reinsurance companies, brokers and ILS managers manage risk in hurricane prone areas. HurLoss is the basis for structural design for hurricane-prone states since 1998 and has been used for federal emergency planning and mitigation nationwide since 2003. The model provides a unified set of events covering the entire North Atlantic Basin, including the U.S. and Caribbean, Bermuda and parts of Canada and Mexico. HurLoss's physics-based hurricane hazards modeling and engineering load modeling are based on fundamental principles, and validated by claims data. It incorporates future weather conditioning, allowing the user to assess risk based on current or projected climatological data.
