MeshCAM Description

CNC Software for Non-Machinists. MeshCAM is the fastest method to generate gcode. The goal is to create a CAD file that can be used to guide your mill in cutting it. You don't need to be an expert in CAM software. What you really want is parts. MeshCAM is for people who want to make parts right away. MeshCAM can be used with almost any 3D CAD program. It supports the most popular 3D file formats, STL or DXF. You can also load 2D DXF files in R12 format to create 2D parts. Sometimes you will need a part that cannot easily be designed using a traditional CAD program. Sometimes, you don't even need a CAD program. Don't worry if this sounds like you. Any image file (JPG or BMP) can be opened in MeshCAM to convert it into a 3D surface that can easily be machined. This feature can be used to create parts that are almost impossible to produce with traditional CAD programs.

    Less than ideal

    Date: Dec 31 2024

Summary: Wrote to the guy at GRZ, told him my problem, sent him all the info he requested. He got back to me, said I was right, that there was indeed a problem with the software and that he would fix it. Haven't heard from him since! I guess either it was harder to fix than he thought or he just didn't bother to get back to me after that. Cost me a bunch of time but at least no money. Sure won't buy it now!

Positive: That I didn't have to spend any money to test it.

Negative: Tool paths were ridiculous, tool was cutting air more than metal. Run times in hours not minutes.
