Summary: Ignition is a wonderful product, with highly knowledgeable support. I have been in this business for over 20 years and have used a lot of HMI software. Wonderware, Citect, RSView, Factory Talk ME / SE, etc... There is no comparison when it comes to ease of use and price. For a new user with limited programming experience implementation of a standard HMI system with a data historian is quick and easy. Integration with PLCs and databases is seamless. I know a lot of this seems to good to be true but I assure you I am not in anyway paid or incentivized to say these things. They are the truth as I see it. With a little time and an intermediate level proficiency in python and SQL ( a little java also) you can create modules and / or scripting to perform nearly any function required of an industrial manufacturing business. It could easily be used as a custom MES solution or even accounting software if you really wanted to reinvent the wheel. The biggest problem with different software packages running separate pieces of your business is interoperability. Ignition has ZERO hurtles in this regard. Unfortunately, the VAST majority of software companies are sorely lacking when it comes to API development. Ideally you would want to let each individual piece of the business choose the software they like best and have them "talk" to each other to exchange data and function so as to not require redundant data entry or functionality. But that level of interoperability is rarely possible. That is the only reason I mention using Ignition as a custom MES or even accounting solution.
Positive: *Pricing model
*Excellent source of independent / self paced learning (Inductive University)
*Ease of use with minimal formal training
*Free full version of software (2 hour time out on clients)
*Versatility
*Interoperability
*Seamless Database and PLC integration
*Greatly reduced development time
*Excellent Tech support ( Knowledgeable and helpful)
Infinitely versatile scripting functionality
*******The Ignition platform is capable of performing ANY business software function. With an intermediate level knowledge of python / java / SQL you can create the modules and scripting functions to provide limitless functionality.Negative: Possibly the cost of support when using multiple instances of Ignition at a single facility. I will update this when I have heard back from Ignition support.

Ignition had a wonderful in person training program pre-covid. But there is talk of not starting it back up and pushing everything to virtual online training. If this occurs it would be a BIG con for me. When it comes to getting the most out of training I don't think there is any comparison between in person and online learning. In person wins every time. -

Best platform for SCADA, MES and IIoT Date: Jul 26 2021
Summary: I would say Ignition is the IIoT platform to do SCADA, MES and build business applications. The vision of Ignition is really good.
Positive: Flexible, performant, smart, really helps developers, pricing is really good, licencing is very easy.
Negative: There is not much to dislike about Ignition. I have not seen anything better on the market.
