IBM Storage Archive Description
IBM Storage Archive, a software product in the IBM Storage portfolio, provides a graphical user interface for managing data in tape drives and library using the Linear Tape File System format standard. This format is used to read, write and exchange descriptive metadata on tape cartridges formatted in LTFS format. IBM Storage Archive provides direct, intuitive, and graphical access for data stored on tape. This eliminates the need for any additional software or tape management. Storage Archive offers you three software solutions to manage your digital files in the LTFS format. These are Single Drive Edition, Library Edition, and Enterprise Edition.

IBM ProtecTIER
ProtecTIER®, a disk-based storage system, is available. It uses data deduplication technology for data storage to disk arrays. The ProtecTIER Virtual Tape Library service (VTL), uses feature code 9022 to emulate traditional tape libraries. Feature Code 9024 allows you to configure a standalone TS7650G as FSI. Multiple software applications can run on different TS7650G components. The ProtecTIER Manager Workstation is a customer-supplied workstation which runs the ProtecTIER Manager Software. The ProtecTIER Manager software is the management GUI interface for the TS7650G. The ProtecTIER VTL Service emulates traditional tape libraries. ProtecTIER VTL emulates tape libraries and allows you to move to disk backup without needing to replace your entire backup environment. Your backup application can access virtual robots that move virtual cartridges between virtual slots.
